Title: delayed harvest trout Crick's
Post by: Susky on March 12, 2015, 06:16:31 PM
Anyone hitting up any delayed harvest artificial only trout spots.  They are suppose to stock a section of salt lick creek north of New Milford next week.  I might give it a try next weekend and wash the dust off the panther martins.

I'm  hoping to get  out once the ice clears out on the creeks. I've been toying around making trout/panfish jigs and inline spinners I want to try out on Harveys creek delayed harvest section.

It's a decent little creek. There's some better spots to fish if you don't mind a little hike. I've caught some nice trout out of Harveys and even some small non-stocked trout. Stay away during the opening  week of trout, it's a ZOO! Chez, how's it looking lately? Still iced up?

I'm going to take a look at Harvey's Creek DHALO stretch this weekend.  Last year around this time even though the valley / cities had no snow or ice left there was still a ton of frozen snow and ice shelves along the creek.  A lot of it runs through ravines and mini gorges, the sun doesn't even get down in there to melt things off.

I know the Rt 29 stretch usually runs a lot warmer but once you get down into the DHALO stretch it's a different world.

Fished the DHALO section of salt lick creek north of new Milford today and didn't even get a follow let a lone a strike.  Had a bald eagle circling over head and the weather was great.  It was just good to be out even though no fish caught.

water temps must still be pretty cold in most streams, this time of year I go deep and slow, wooly buggers and nymphs.

Your exactly right HD.... took a ride through Harveys DHALO section last weekend. Lots of ice on still on the creek and a few inches of snow still on the ground. the stretch along 29 was a different story

I ran up to Binghamton this morning to pick up my new jeep and everything was flowing high and muddy.  The river looked about ready to spill its banks up there.  The trout will certainly be spread out bow that's for sure!

I'll throw up a couple pics when I get on a comp to transfer them. Hard to take pics of trout by yourself, didn't want to handle them much so they are "catch a fish, quick pull out phone with one hand and snap it quick and release"...
But on a side note if anyone wants to come up this way I can show you some good fishing. Catch and release only and artificial baits only.. just message me or what ever and we can figure something out. I don't work so anytime is a good time for me.

Sounds like a plan. Never fished that crick.  We will have to hook up at some point.

"yes that was me.. were you the one that "reminded" me about artifitial lures?"

Nope, that must've been someone else, I tried wooly buggin just below you, I came out expecting murky fast water but it was clear and low for this time of year.  I did get a few though.  I was surprised there were quite a few guys out.

A good size for pics on here is  600 x 450   I can show you how to do it if you want.  You can either resize them before you upload them (XnView is free good software for that)  or use IMGUR.com and upload your photos there and then resize them.  Or you can change the setting on your photo device.

It looks like in the pics you had a trout magnet on, that's not illegal I don't think, what did the guy say to you  ?

Post by: zziipp on April 10, 2015, 09:00:12 AM
I was using magnets and hook and plastics.. the guy watched me catch one of the big ones and when I released it I was putting amother plastic on and he said "you do know that this is artificial only don't you?" I said absolutely I know. Here look, it's a plastic minnow shad looking thing, plastic is artificial right? He said "yes", so I said well then I'm using artificial lures. Lol. Guy was Probly pissed because he stood there like he wanted me to leave and I didnt.

This comes up a lot, the molded egg thing seems odd.  Was the debate about Gulp baits ever resolved ?

With some luck I might be fishing Bowmans fly stretch tomorrow and a little luzerne county DHALO  stretch on Sunday.  Anyone else heading out ?

Gold NUGGET was a bar years ago near the salmon river.dont even know if its still there.i was 19 when my uncles snuck me in ,was a neet bar.I remember when you walked in you had to take a stepb down,I FOUND THAT OUT THE HARD WAY<LOL.

At least the step down was on the way in chez and not on the way out after a few cold ones.  That could get ugly.  I remember a bar at PSU that had a set of steep metal steps that you had to go DOWN on the way OUT.  How I never broke my neck leaving there over the years I'll never no.  I may have been better off with a bad tumble down the steps over some of the girls that drug me out of there .....  :o

Hit a DHALO area this morning. Caught a couple but it was tough.  Water was a bit high but fishable.  The water is still very cold up here and I think that has them sluggish.  Certainly didn't set the world on fire but it was good to be out.

I hit a DHALO  stretch today and it was clear water and below normal flows for this time of year.  The fishing was tough in the clear water and bright sunshine.  Slow most of the day until the sun started going down, then the fish went crazy.  They were chasing streamers like nobodies business.  I must've had 20+ hits and landed 12 or so in the final 30-40 minutes, including a few nice 15 & 16-inch bows.
