surf fishing

Although not related to PA, I believe many anglers take advantage of a few hour drive to the coast, or while on vacation to surf fish. My suggestion is to have available surf conditions and tidal reports, and a board to talk about tips and tricks for reading and fishing the surf.

I don't surf fish but like to plan cool saltwater trips once and awhile. The last one was cod fishing out of Montauk Point. We got a cooler fool of nice cod. Man they are good eating! Mark

Nice photo.  Looks like a great time.  The only salt water fishing I have ever done was for tarpon fishing in the keys.  It was a good time!

It might be fun to get a group from the site to do a tuna chumming trip late summer or early fall. You run out of Jersey and the yellow fin tuna are closer to shore. Maybe 50 miles.. the boat sets up a chum slick and draws the tuna in to the boat. Big 20 -30# yellow fin tuna. Good sushi material!  Mark

I would like to go out for tuna also.  I went once before and it was awesome.  The freshest sushi I ever had.  The mate cut some off when cleaning the catch and the captain made a big plate up and bsd with us while they were being cleaned.

OK, let's plan a tuna fest! We can get a roster firmed up say end of June. Look at best captains/boats and book one for peak tuna time. Charters probably run about $750-$900 for the trip. Another option are the head boats but they run around $50 per guy and have limited tuna trips. For a charter of 10  it is approximately $75-$90 per guy.  Mark

Rich, I think tuna fishing is usually late summer or early fall. We would have to book a boat before that. Mark

I'm not built for that kind of fishing. I get seasick on the ice when the wind blows. Small craft on the river or lakes but the waves and I don't get along very well. I'd be up for a late fall shot to Island Beach State Park.

I did a preliminary investigation for charter boats. The price has really escalated. $350 per man for 21 hr trip to mud hole or edge of canyons for tuna. Maybe we should target another species such as bottom fishing for sea bass and porgies on a day trip. These trips can be charted much cheaper. Like $80 per person.  Mark
