State Park Crappie
« on: May 08, 2015, 04:20:35 PM »
For your info the Fish Commission just completed a week study of calico at Lackawanna State Park. They had several capture nets out all week, I'm not sure of the specifics of the study, although I know they were targeting white crappie.

I talked to the gentlemen from the commission (who answered all my questions, they were very professional & informative). They had piles, & I mean piles of all kinds of fish in the nets, for the crappie I would say the majority that I saw were
7" - 9", with a decent amount of 10"+ mixed in. For those that say all the crappie are small at the park, the biggest was 16"! and they also had a few 14"-15".

Quite a few suckers, some over 20", bullheads, perch & enough bluegill to shingle a roof. Report is suppose to be sent to the head warden of the area & hopefully the actual results, including age of fish will be available on the Pa. fish Co. web site.
