Francis Slocum state park

Took a ride out to Slocum the other day and WOW that lake looks horrible! Couldn't believe the water clarity...looked like the susky after a torrential down pour. Nobody fishing, just a lonely kayaker on a joy ride.

I have to pass it al least once a day all year long. It is always off colored and dingy green, the brown tide just started up about two weeks ago with the heat wave. I don't know how the state manages to have the worst looking lakes in PA but they do. I have been spending some time at another local lake that has lapsed into obscurity for the time being and it is pristine. I fear for it once the state takes it over.

The state has its priorities. the lake looks like a sewage treatment plant but the new visitors center being built inside the park will compensate for that...

Seen the lske friday.
I agree with Fishfinder.
LOOKS LIKE A SEWERAGE PLANT.
DONT understand it.Every year it turns different colors.Last year it looked like Pea Soup.
Its a beautiful lake.they should take the time to correct the problem.
I remember when they made the lake. That was like a farm land with only a creek running threw it.
Man im getting old.

Seems like conservation clubs do more work for state owned property than the state does. Like the Nanticoke conservation club does cleanups at Slocum and also built the floating islands that for some reason are tied up along the shore inside the park.

Took a ride up to Slocum to get some fresh air and make a few casts..it's just a 10 min ride from my house, perfect when i have limited time.. otherwise I wouldn't waste my time.    Anyways it still looks like s##t and caught a few dink very pale looking bass on spinners. The first two pics is the new environmental education center that's being built.  The floating islands would prob do better out in the middle of the lake...just my opinion

The fish were active tho...taking freshly hatched flies of the surface. Would have had a ball catching small gills on a fly rod n popper.

Chez is right, the lake was fine before the state put the alewifes and trout in.  Now it's a "put and take" trout lake and the litterbugs rule  >:(

I just hope that the state stops using state parks as testing grounds. By putting in none native fish and plants to see how it affects the environment
