Ice out perch
« on: March 17, 2015, 06:51:13 PM »
Ice out perch are one of my favorite seasonal patterns. I find them roaming on spawning areas and flats near brush and weeds were they will deposit their eggs (2-8 ft). Usually the rest of the school is near a drop off or hole adjacent to where they spawn. I love jigs and fathead minnows this time of the year. I keep the boat a long cast away from the area I'm fishing. Once the fish are found I anchor. Any body else like chasing ice out perch? Mark

Everything is still locked up solid up here but idk how safe anything is.  Haven't been on the ice in two weeks.  I was hoping to have some ice out panies in the freezer by now as my ice fishing fillets are getting low.  It will happen soon I'm thinking....it has to  :o

I bet the perch are swimming all around their spawning areas under the ice. When the ice finally goes it should be game on!

I'm sure those willing to venture out on the late ice are putting the blocks to them.  My ice gear is put away, I'll wait for open water.  Not quite warm enough to go swimming just yet.

I plan on getting my gear away this week.

OK, the lakes in my community are starting to ice out! Hopefully the coming weeks warm rain melts away ice on all the lakes. Mark

I'm hoping so too Mark.  Edges are rotten around here but everything is still locked up.  I was hoping to be on open water by now but it is what it is.  Looking forward to some fresh fillets!
