Nice looking jigs! They would make good perch jigs! I have made bucktail jigs with those sickle hooks that you used. They make a positive hold onto the fish on the hook set! Great job on your jigs! 8)

I've tied these style jigs on plain ball head jigs and catch just about eveything...bass,panfish, trout and even do well the all black pattern for smallies on the river. When I came across these walleye head I'd figure try something different

Thanks man! I luv the sickle hook, I truly believe the fish practically hook themselves on them. I just ordered some various colors of bucktail and kip tail...

Those blacke ones would work great at CANNONSVILLE for smallie.
Would look like a leech.

Got out this past weekend to try the jigs on some panfish. They exceeded my expectations...Caught about 30 fish in roughly three hours. It was HOT and the water was green with algae. My buddy was using small tubes and I prob outfished him 4 to 1. Will def tying up some more. Here are a few pics...

Thanks...it is gratifying to catch fish on something you made and it's a relaxing hobby. Since I started making my own jigs my store bought stuff has been collecting dust...in fact I've sold quite a bit of it to pay for new materials. Next will be making my own spinners...just need to find "spare time" wich has become harder and harder to find these days. Anyways...once I get some stock built up I'll send out some samples...always helps to have outside input.

New member and came across this thread..bringing it back instead of a new one just made sense
I tye my own jigs and also that same pattern/style head...best for fishing rock piles...what it was designed for...I tye them 1/16 to 5/8 ...from perch and crappie to walleye
I'm wondering what you seal the head with once finished? Also them 3d eyes look sharp but are expensive...you have a line on bulk?

Nothing more gratifying than tying your own jigs,and catching fish on em! I buy the 3d eyes off of ebay, they are inexpensive as,long as you don't mind waiting for em to be shipped from china...but like I said dirt cheap. I seal them with a coat of Sally Hansen's hard as nails nail polish clear coat, stuff is a great sealer...

Man I hate supporting China but ..... ::) I think I can wait  ;D
was  about to say cheapest Ive seen them was on ebay... I use flat eyes and fish don't seem to mind
I think them 3d will catch more jig fisherman tho
I use hard as nails as well...the csi clear coat is tempting ...$34 for 16 oz but like a epoxy just drip and done tho .I've notices after fishing bigger jigs like 1/2 or 3/8 oz my finish starts to dull up with the hard as nails might need a few coats I guess once your fishing the bottom more ...smaller jigs I almost always have a bobber on top so haven't noticed any issues...any other guys on here making there ownjigs or baits ??
Good luck fishing fishfinder
