LAST TRIP FOR THE YAK
« on: September 20, 2015, 07:55:47 PM »

Me and birdman got out for the last time probably with the yaks tonite. We got out for 2hrs.With bow season next saturday and the smallie bite on Cannonsville and the river on sundays ,,I dought ill get back out with the yak.
no pics of Birdman, when he hits the lake ,he goes his own way.He said he managed 3 bass and about adozen pickerel.he was using crank baits. Was windy ,so my favorite lure for this lake was useless,i put on a white and Chart.Spinner bait.I caught at least 2 bass and 5 Pickerel on it.Then 40 minutes before dark the lake turned to glass.I tied on a Perch chugbug and in 4 cast I caught 4 bass, then at lest 2 more and a few pickerel.was a great nite.No slammer bass all 12" to maybe 15" but lots of fun.I did loose a slammer pickerel next to the yak.It had to be 25" or better.

It was great fishing with you again brother. Gotta do it again soon before ice just to say we did!

Chez definitely caught the lions share this night. Every time I looked over at him he was bringing in another one. I got a 15" pick and a 9" perch that I put back, a bunch of short hits and a lot of paddling. The wind pushed me around all afternoon. There was one spot on the lake where a guy could clean up on the gills if he had a 5wt fly rod! The gills were going airborne in that area all evening!

Ended up stripping a casting reel so I'll be replacing that in a few hours and get that ready for the next time out!

yeah man, it was great getting out again. When I opened up those fish I found nothing in their stomachs. Absolutely nothing. Like you said bro, that cold front put them right down. Just like at Promised land. The pickerel I got there was empty as well. But the last trip??? na, I still have the canoe on the back of the truck. I'm thinking maybe tomorrow or Thursday before that cold front hits. I haven't gone home with more than 2 fish from a days fishing since March! I'm ready for some ice, just not ready to put the canoe away ;D
