Thanks for the reminder FM.  I think its a great idea to give the kids a chance when they don't have to compete with adults.  It will allow them to enjoy the experience even more.  Everyone should take time to take a kid out fishing!

That's a great point. I avoid the stocked holes and forgot what they get like.

I love catching trout but hate the first day just for that reason.  People can get very ugly on the streams opening day, especially if there are one of those orange fish in the hole.  Can make for an unpleasant experience for kids.

X2,
THE first day should allways be for kids.
I remember when I was small at snowhill, guys pushing the kids out of the way so they could get at the trout,my dad and his friends got into many a fight over just that. Some adult were more like children than us kids were.i remember a few years back my friend Fausty throwing a guy into the dam because of a A hole pussing his dying father who had cancer out of the way and trying to get his spot. That guys lucky ,BELIVE me.
We get out for a party anymore,i don't think I wet a line last year the first day.I might have but don't remember.Durk and MARK D were there.
Great they have a mentor day for the kids.Wish they did when my kids were young.
What turned out to be a Joke,The Law Dogs  Dont Understand!!!!

Last year I took my 16 year old
neighbor and her dad fishing to Snowhill
Dam and me and him let her catch all
the fish, Then on the way back home we
stopped at the Mountain Home dinner
for the worlds best beacon cheeseburger
