More Lehigh Troutin
« on: April 24, 2016, 11:38:44 PM »
I checked the river a few miles below where FM was fishing, a good deal of insects out and spotted trout rising for them.

Caught about a dozen all on Nemo's dry fly

All browns and brookies

"second and third look like wild browns"  That's what I was thinking after I looked at the pics, with the red tip on the fin and blue cheek.

They were ripping that fly apart, I'm using last year's leftover flies that were already chewed up.  I would've caught twice as many but I haven't casted on big water in a while, need practice.  Nothing like slapping a bunch of line on top of a rising trout in calm clear water  :o

I think I need new fly line, I'm taking 2 outfits and a spare reel today.   Will post later tonight

Thanks for the comments guys, I headed back today and easily doubled the amount of trout landed from yesterday, lost count, maybe 30+, all on Nemo's dry fly.  They tore it up, literally, lol.

One of the nicer brookies

One of only a couple rainbows

There were 2 separate caddis hatches, the later one was fairly heavy, an hour before dark fish were rising everywhere.

Nemo can tell us what type of insect this is

Next to one of my torn up flies

Picked this guy up out of the crowd of insects on the water

I have some videos to upload also.  I saw something pretty unusual.  I had just released a nice brownie and was drying off the fly and tossed it a few feet in front of me to see how it was floating, a few feet later and a trout took it but I missed him.  I stared fixated at the spot of the take and watched several natural insects drift by, no takes.  I tossed Nemo's dry fly out again and the trout took it again, I missed it a 2nd time.  Still the real insects are floating by and the trout is not interested  :o  A 3rd time I drifted the fly to him and it took the fly again, and again I missed him.  I don't ever recall seeing a trout take ONLY an imitation while refusing the real thing, crazy.

Nice pics! I guess you got your casting worked out. :)  the fly in the pic is a caddis. But in order to identify what species I'll have to know what color the body is? the may fly in the pic looks to be a blue quill.

I love hear stories like that!  8) I've had guys cursing me on the river shaking their heads cause they weren't catching $%!^ meanwhile I'm pulling one after the other out on the WF.  :P

Nemo, on Sunday a fly fisherman who used to live right on that stretch of river said they were Apple Caddis, I didn't even capture any insects on Sunday.  Yesterday I netted a few but did not look closely at the bodies, the trout were taking my WF so what did I care  ;)  next time I will capture more samples and get better pics
