Giant Snapper

lol sorry I had to do it! Spotted this monster snapping turtle several times Friday while bait fishing. I'd love to trap it just to see how big it is, but that would be selfish on my part. Location is secret to protect this very old girl.

Behemoth Giant Snapping Turtle getting a breath on the surface of a lake. You can actually see it bobbing up when it draws in each breath. I estimate that it was a yard long from the tip of its head to the tip of its tail. By far the largest I have ever seen in the wild or anywhere else for that matter.  I had my cell phone zoomed in all the way, turtle was approx. 25 yards off the shore. Play at full screen for best effect.

Many yrs ago my uncle got one.the shell was as big as a car tire. He put it in the back of his truck and it grabbed his spare tire and punctured it. It snapped pieces of tree branch with ease. He relocated it to a pond on private property.it was by far the biggest one I've ever seen and probably will ever see with all the devolpment going on now.you couldn't get both your hands around its tail. I wouldn't even want to know the chunk that turtle could take out of you. Heck with a finger or two. That thing probably could have taken your hand off.
