Last week I did a little scouting on the river up here(N. of Reading) mainly looking for musky for later on. Did have my spinning gear along but no smallies wanted to play. Not really the right type of water for them slower deeper area.

Then this morning I went to B/M again. I picked up a decent baitcast rod a Wally Mart $65 reduced to $15  couldn't pass it up LOL. So this morning was to "test" it  and also test out another rig that I strung 60lb braid on for chasing musky.(Failed - reel issue on that outfit) . Then I started using the new rod and for some reason my anti-reverse quit on that reel >:( I did however manage 1 nice 18" smallie  ;D .
The problem with the gene pool is that there is no lifeguard.

ice I have found out that putting braid on a bait caster is just asking for a birds nest, I have gone to 10 lb mono and resolved that problem, I have 4 of them and I like them all, I tie on a small amount of fluorocarbon on the end , not sure if it makes a difference

John never had birdsnest issue's with braid on B/C before. Tried it for bass fishing a few years back. What I did notice was reduced casting distance compared to mono, so for bass I went back to my standby Silver Thread AN-40 in either 10 or 12lb.

However the 60lb braid was also in a bargin bin so I thought I'd try it for musky. My "problem" was stringing it on an old B/C that sat unused for 10 yrs. and now I know why LOL. Used to have a local shop that repaired reels but they closed due to "family problems". I respooled it onto one of my other B/C and it worked fine yesterday - sadly no fish  :'(

LEAVES SUCK...!!!!!!!!!!
ONE OR 2 ON YOUR LINE THROWS THE WHOLE MOTION off of a CRANKBAIT.
I cant stand fishing the river like that.
Jigging isn't too bad.

GOOD LUCK IF YOU GET OUT THERE JOHNFRIES. :)
