panfish 2017
« on: March 10, 2017, 03:17:33 PM »
For years I was into panfish mostly,I'd say right around the time I got a drivers license(almost 20 yrs ago now)I would drive all over looking for a hot bite,I would travel to different bodies of water in search of big sunnies and gills perch and crappie,I started to get out of it more the last 6-7yrs and target mainly walleye, love the shore hunt and def enjoy fileting 3-5 fish over a bucket of gills, but with all this said my goal this yr is to find them big sunnies again and enjoy what I use to do
can't wait for a couple warm days to give them a shot, feel free to share panfish stories and pics on this thread for 2017

Thanks perchgypsy, this thread is right up my alley  :)
When I started fishing 90% of my time was spent fishing for Panfish and trout. I was hooked on using ultralight/light tackle and gear. My grandparents had a camper on a small lake in Bradford county PA and it was loaded with perch ,crappie and gills, was nothing to catch a hundred panfish over a weekend. Wich I did every weekend during spring, summer and fall. As I got older I got more into bass fishing and over past ten years or so I was focused on fishing the Susquehanna river for walleye and smallies. Seems like the past three years when ever I had an opportunity to fish the river was either high or dirty and low, not saying they can't be caught but I'm a shore chucker and seemed like more work when it was like that. So last year I reminisced how much fun I had with panfish and started making my own jigs and invested in some quality ultralight and light tackle spinning gear. Really looking forward to warmer weather to get out and target those panfish again. Also looking forward to this thread throughout the year.  8)

This is the type of interest that will keep this thread going👍👍,
below zero this morning with wind chill, drove over the oneida river(rt81) and the river was frozen over more so than all yr ,not completely but crazy to say the least,
Waiting for ice to show then waiting for it to go is getting old this yr...craving sun right now ;D

Great idea for a thread Rock!! I don't get to panfish much these days when the family is chasing a bass angler all over the state!! I miss the panfishing days!!! I do get out a couple times for crappies, but that's it. One day I'll get back at it!! Enjoy your open water fishing this season my friends!!😎🎣

My son and daughter (twins) will be 5 in July. They got little fishing combos for xmas. As soon as the weather breaks they'll be heading out with me.  Targeting Panfish is the perfect way to get them started into fishing and hopefully keep em interested just like I was.
