Blue Marsh 2018
« on: May 03, 2018, 04:22:12 PM »
Well I tried B/M this morning hoping for some hybrid action. The surface was a sheet of glass no alewives = no hybrids chasing them. Tossed topwaters + jerkbaits for a couple of hours  NADA... Did see a couple of "male" bass cruising the shoreline but didn't try to catch them.
The problem with the gene pool is that there is no lifeguard.

Hit spot #2 looking for hybrids this morning. Again no activity on the surface, but I tossed a topwater anyway. No hybrids - but the smallies were hungry got 5(4 - 15"-18"  + 1 dink 12") also missed 2 others. All seemed like they were spawned out but still solid fish

1st trip over since bass opened. Some alewives on the surface nothing really chasing them. A few bigger splashes scattered among them - No action on buzzbait, spook, spinnerbait, jerkbait - Finally got bit on a Senko 1 just short smallie(14 3/4") and a shorter largie (11-12").  Slow HOT/HUMID morning was hoping last nights showers would have cooled things down - sweating before sunup = not fun.

    Yesterdays report(technical difficulties   :o)
Strange morning .... Lots of Alewives up on top early but nothing bothering them. Tried topwater and worm = nothing. For some reason I tied on a fake Rat-L-Trap.... 1st fish about a 15" channel, 2nd fish about a 3.5lb Smallie, 3rd fish almost wall worthy Pumpkinseed, 4th fish I lost but it had some weight and 5th fish was a scrappy little green sunfish... LOL. Only snapped 1 pict.

Got a call about an empty seat yesterday morning so I gathered up a few rods and grabbed my vest. Keeping my gear to a minimum since I wasn't sure what I'd find mud or water - turned out pretty much back to normal after all the rain/flooding.

Slow start down in the main lake not even a nibble for 3 hrs. (my buddy has a few "spots" that don't look fishy but he hits them every time  :o  Finally hit a steeper bank with rock and an old roadbed. I had 2 half hearted hits on a Senko(probably sunnies) and 1 good hit that I missed(been a few weeks out of practice LOL).

Debated leaving but we decided to try up in the No Wake zone. Hit 1 bank very similar to the last one (rocky+roadbed) and we were rewarded with about a half dozen dinks(10-14" lgm) between the 2 of us. My buddy also caught 1 decent 16-17" lgm a 15" channel and for a change he  got 3 sunnies.

I stuck with my Senko  while he was tossing a small crayfish colored crankbait.
