Springtime Slabs

Fishing for Crappie and bluegills as they move onto shallow flats during May has become one of my favorite pursuits, a very close second to fishing for spring time channel cats on the river. After putting in the time, trial and error and leg work, I finally got the big gills and calicos dialed in at a local lake. Bear in mind, these were caught from shore at a public lake. Lesson I learned was that , they're in there, ya just gotta keep trying til you figure out where they are and what they want. I kept only a few for the pan (soft fish tacos which were delicious) and released twice as many to get bigger for next time. Such a righteous spring tradition....... catching big bluegills that fight harder than they have a right to and big calicos. It's the little things........ watching that small float dive under the surface as a fish strikes. Life is good  8)

The problem with the gene pool is that there is no lifeguard.
